Monitoring program

emission control

In Norway, emissions are regulated through the corporate discharge permit. The Norwegian Environment Agency requires that Norwegian companies document their emissions to soil, air and water to ensure that they are within the requirements of the permit.

In 2010 came a requirement from The Norwegian Environment Agency to establish a monitoring program to achieve emission control.

Lean Tech helps companies develop complete Monitoring program or part of it, like calculation of uncertainties. The monitoring program should focus on achieving the lowest uncertainty for the greatest emissions.

When preparing a monitoring program it's important to consider the normal manufacturing conditions to achieve representative sampling. Seasonality needs to be taken into account, and measurement uncertainty for the analyses must be determined. You can read more about the monitoring program for air emission developed for Allnex.

Reduce emission

To reduce emission, you need to map the current situation including emission sources. Quantify your emissions to water, air, landfill and recovery by data collection and sampling.

Many companies measure their emissions to water through the analysis of COD (chemical oxygen demand) or BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand), and possibly nitrogen and phosphorus. It can be challenging to connect BOF or COD to shrinkage of raw materials, intermediate product and product. If you know how much the relevant components contribute to BOD / COD, you can estimates shrinkage of raw materials and product.

Significant savings can be achieved by reducing emission (Lean Tech has quantified wastage of 1.4 million $ / year at a company by mapping emissions). Lean Tech perform emission mapping, IPPC (Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control) reports quantifying emissions and waste, and BAT (Best Available Technology) comparison.
